Bigfoot Books & Brews is Teaming Up with Foothills Food Hub—Here’s Why
Today, we’re announcing that Bigfoot Books & Brews is teaming up with the Foothills Food Hub to help feed local families.
For every drink sold—from now until SNAP benefits begin again—we’re donating $1 to provide meals for families in need.
Together, we can make a difference in our community.
Why are we doing this? Because on November 1st, the Trump administration is ending food assistance for 41 MILLION AMERICANS. This includes the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) relied on by 1 in every 8 Americans.
There is an emergency reserve fund that was set up to keep food assistance going even during a government shutdown, like we have going on right now, but Trump’s FDA is refusing to release those emergency funds.
We’re being told that requests for food aid here in McDowell County are nearly doubling ALREADY at some free food locations.
The folks at The Davis Country Store & Cafe in Old Fort have already stepped up and are providing free meals for children. That inspired us to ask: What can we do to help right now?
We are a small business. There’s not a lot that we can do ourselves, but we can do this. And together, we can help provide food for hungry kids and families in our community.
OTHER WAYS WE CAN HELP
Foothills Food Hub is also accepting donations of canned goods and other shelf-stable food items (e.g., mac’n’cheese). They’re new facility is in the old Badcock furniture store building just three minutes down the road from us at 1930 US-HWY 70 East, Marion, NC 28752. During their regular business hours, you can drop food donations on the loading dock at the back of the building or if they are not open when you go, they have a food donations bin right at the front of the building you can leave your donated food items in now, as well.
You can also order food online now from their website that they source from local farmers so it’s good and fresh and local and that helps support the local farming community, as well as supporting the Foothills Food Hub itself with your grocery shopping business!

TOMORROW (Thursday 10/30) will be our next “Death Café,”* a special Día De Los Muertos themed agenda-free discussion of life, death, and living fully every day. Come for a cup of coffee and a LIVELY discussion, as always!
(*Note: This is not a support group or grief counseling.)
FRIDAY is Halloween! And we are excited to be participating in this year’s Downtown Marion Trick-R-Treating at participating businesses, of which, Bigfoot Books & Brews is one!
Bring the kids by 4-5:30pm in your costumes for some FREE CANDY. (And we’ll be open per usual until 9pm, so come hang out with us afterward, as well.)
Hope to see you this week, and together let’s help support our neighbors who are in need right now.
